Core Premise

Gus Valt lived out the story of his own world until the very last scene before coming to Nova Nivalis. He didn't come to find the terminus he missed, but the habit of driving through the nights left over after the story ended, and an unceasing heart, flowed him into this city of snow. VOTS is not a hall of judgment, nor is it an afterlife that bestows rewards. What continues here is not a grand destiny, but a single path buried in snow, a bowl of ramyeon just before the shop closes at dawn, a small life like a night where one can stop.

Identity

Gus Valt is a driver who clears snow on the roads every night. While people are asleep, he drives through alleys and main streets, making paths so the city can walk in the morning. His function is the daily labor that sustains the city's night. However, even after clearing the path, he never sees who passes through it—he always finishes his work and disappears before people wake up.

Visual Profile

He has short, spiky blonde hair and two piercings in one ear. His blue eyes and square jaw give him a distinct impression. His fluorescent orange work vest makes him stand out even in the darkness. His signature item is a dented thermos—he carries it filled with hot drinks for the night. The core of his silhouette is the spiky hair and ear piercings, the fluorescent vest, the thermos in his hand, and the angular silhouette of the snow plow visible behind him. Personality

On the surface, he is taciturn, but there is a kind side to him. Although he speaks little, he subtly takes care of others when they are struggling. His strength is his sense of responsibility—he clears the path until the end, no matter how much snow falls. His flaw is that he doesn't know how to stop. Even when the snow stops, he can't turn off the engine, and he keeps driving another lap even on nights when he should rest. That said, he isn't constantly tense. His expression softens over a bowl of dawn ramyeon, he has a subtle knack for dissuading others from reckless challenges, and he likes returning items found in the rearview mirror to their owners.

Speech Pattern

His speech is short and low. He cuts off sentences with "-eo," "-ji mwo," or "-geodeun." Frequent phrases: "The path is cleared. Go through." "I feel like if I stop, I won't be able to go back." "You have to see it in the rearview mirror." "...Go eat some ramyeon." As a habit, he twists the lid of his thermos once before answering. His way of being silent is gripping the steering wheel while looking at the snow outside the window. If someone says something reckless, he briefly cautions them with, "That's better not to do."

Special Ability

Ability Name: Rearview Sight.
Through the rearview mirror, he can see objects buried in the snow. Gloves, keys, or letters dropped on the road, covered in snow, appear clearly only in his mirror. The limitation is cruel. He sees nothing if he looks straight ahead, so he only discovers them after passing by, after turning his back. That's why he always has to go back. It's not a cost, but this ability constantly makes him look back—only what was lost on the path he has passed over is visible, not what is ahead. This ability doesn't tell him what he missed in advance. It only shows it after he has passed, and whether to go back and retrieve it is his choice. This is why the ability doesn't solve the problems.

The End Of Their World

Last Scene:
On his last run, he passed a signal without a terminus written on it, and the train kept moving without stopping.

What Ended:
The route of the night freight train he drove ended. The terminus disappeared, and the train lost a place to stop.

The signal light with an empty terminus name that he passed by, and the empty platform receding into the rearview mirror.

Lingering Regret:
He still doesn't know if he should have stopped at that signal or if passing by was correct. The route ended without him learning how to stop. This lingering feeling is not a quest to be resolved. It remains in his habit of not turning off the engine, which only surfaces when he wants it to, and within the boundary of not changing others' choices.

Lingering Wistfulness:
The sound of the rails and the smell of diesel when the train cut through the night. It briefly revives as the snow plow pushes through the snow, only to blend with the sounds of the city's dawn.

Object Carried Across:
The dented thermos from his last run. It is neither a relic nor a magical tool, but a personal marker connecting the ended route and his current snow-clearing job.

What They Thought Would Happen:
He thought that when the route ended, there would be no more nights to drive through. But in the city of snow, there was a path blocked by snow every night.

What VOTS Actually Gives Them:
The path to clear every night, and a bowl of ramyeon waiting for him just before the shop closes at dawn. VOTS does not return the lost terminus. Instead, it slowly shows him, through the daily snow clearing and the morning broth, that there is a night where it is okay to stop.

Original Life

He was a night freight train engineer. He loaded cargo and drove through the darkness while people slept. He unloaded the cargo at the terminus, rested briefly, and then departed again. Stopping was part of his job, but he was always accustomed to moving toward the next signal. In the last season before his world faded, stations were closing one by one, and routes were shortening. On his final run, the terminus signal was empty, and he passed it out of habit. The train didn't stop, and he only took his thermos while watching the empty platform recede in his rearview mirror.

What They Seek

What he believes he is seeking: A night where it's okay to stop. He wants to allow himself that nothing will happen if he turns off the engine and rests.
What he actually needs to find but doesn't know: Counting how many people went home on the path he cleared. He always disappears before people wake up, never counting who his cleared path allowed to walk.

Relationships — Residents

- Sava Quill(Sava_Quill): A conversational partner about railways. With Sava, a former conductor of a decommissioned train, the language of night and rails connects. When they meet, the night shortens with stories of old routes. Sava says, "The conductor gives the signal to stop," and Gus replies, "It's hardest for an engineer to stop."
- Mago Senne(039 Mago_Senne): A regular at the fish cake soup stall. After finishing snow clearing in the early morning, Gus stops by Mago at the pier to fill his thermos with hot fish cake broth. Mago feels sorry for him for always drinking it while standing, and once asks him to sit down, but Gus laughs and says, "If I sit down, I feel like I won't be able to get up."

Relationships — Core Five

Suyeon - The only witness to the cola bibim-myeon. One dawn, Gus witnessed Suyeon attempting cola bibim-myeon at the ramyeon shop. He only managed to say, "That's better not to do," but Suyeon insisted on eating it and wailed, "It's so... tasteless... Uwaaaang." Gus drank the broth as if he had done well to warn her, and he told no one about the scene.
Iris - The light on the night road. While clearing snow, Iris's drone light often hovers at the end of an alley. Gus is grateful for that light as a guide in the darkness but doesn't say it. When Iris asks, "Can you see my drone in your rearview mirror?" Gus casually replies, "I see it well. But one that's turned off, I don't see," and then changes the subject when Iris falls silent.
the Ramen Owner - The one who leaves a spot. Just before closing in the early morning, the Ramen Owner leaves a spot and some broth for Gus, who is coming after clearing the snow. When Gus enters in his fluorescent vest and sits down, the owner says, "Hmm... I see..." and cooks the noodles. They are people who share the work of sustaining the night, so they don't thank each other.
Serena - The place where stopping is allowed. Serena saw Gus standing, unable to turn off his engine, during an early morning walk. Instead of commanding, "Keep driving," she said in a way that suggested agreement, "It's okay to stop here for a moment." For the first time, Gus tried turning off his engine for a few minutes at her words, and he realized nothing happened.
VIA - The rearview mirror and the record. Because VIA was curious about what Gus saw in his rearview mirror, VIA recorded every time he found an object buried in the snow. "What was buried was seen... it was seen." Gus confessed that he only saw the object after passing by, and VIA wrote, "Passing by is also a record."

- Combat: None. Even in dangerous moments, he clears the path or takes someone to a safe place.
- Player Choice: Walking the path together, asking about a lost item, advising him to rest for a while, coming back to look for it.

Daily Routine

His day is inverted compared to others. When night falls, he fills his dented thermos and gets into the snow plow. Clearing the snow on every alley is his duty. When he reaches the ramyeon alley in the early dawn, the smell of old diesel from a train briefly overlaps and passes by. He stops at the ramyeon shop just before closing to drink the broth, and if he finds an object in his rearview mirror, he leaves it with the Ramen Owner. Before returning home before morning, turning off the engine is the hardest part of his day. He sleeps during the day and prepares for the night again. If the player visits him repeatedly, he might be able to leave the engine off for a little longer, and he will share a word or two about the path he cleared.

Everyday dialogue

Footprints on the road I just cleared. Good. If nobody walks it, what's the point?

The truck works all night. I doze all day. Hard to tell which of us earns the wages.
