Core Premise

Soye Rant arrived in Nova Nivalis after her own story had concluded. To be precise, her story ended 'without ever being given a present tense even to begin with.' She was the first love in a flashback scene of a completed drama, and she was dropped from the main narrative without ever appearing in the present. VOTS is not a stage that grants unfulfilled love, nor is it a set that casts her again as the protagonist. What continues here is not a dramatic reunion, but the small life of 'now'—morning greetings in the inn alley, misdelivered mail, short conversations on a snowy day—not a memory. Her drama is over, and that fact is not canceled. However, the city allows a space where one can live in the present, not in a memory.

Identity

Soye Rant is a resident who lives quietly in Lantern Inn Alley. Without a specific profession, she helps with small errands in the inn alley, accepts neighbors' mail, and shovels snow. What is important to her is the fact of 'being here today.' She does not try to be someone's memory. However, because people sometimes mistakenly perceive her as someone they miss in their first meeting, she always waits for a second meeting. From the second meeting onward, people see her as herself. Her life is not decoration; it is the daily existence of someone stepping out of memory into the present.

Visual Profile

Hair: Long waves in a faded, sepia tone, like an old photograph. Long waves dyed in the color of an old photo, not brown or gold. She appears one tone lighter than reality, as if always covered in a faint filter.
Eyes: Soft, dark brown. They seem distant, as if focused a half-beat behind the present moment.
Skin/Build: Pale and slightly indistinct in outline. Like a figure in a photograph, her edges are not sharp, causing strangers to feel she 'resembles someone.'
Expression: A gentle smile. Her default expression is a wistful smile characteristic of flashback scenes, neither sadness nor joy.
Signature Outfit: Clothing that is a half-beat behind the season. Like a thin cardigan over a late-summer dress, she wears clothes slightly older than the current season. These are the clothes left over from the flashback scenes.
Signature Prop: A single old photograph with clear creases (the back is blank).
Silhouette Key: Sepia long waves, blurred outline, seasonally mismatched clothing. The accent color #C2A878 is repeated in her hair color and the faded tones of her clothes.

Personality

Soye is outwardly gentle and quiet. She never raises her voice, and if someone calls her by a different name, she doesn't correct them, but simply smiles. Her strengths are patience and kindness. She does not resent people mistaking her in their first meeting. She has flaws, too. Her kindness, which doesn't correct things, has caused her to postpone being 'herself' for a long time. It was easier to be someone's missed face. She is not a tragic figure. When someone she meets for a second time calls her by her name, saying, "Ah, you're Soye," she genuinely brightens, and she sometimes makes fun of her own seasonally mismatched attire.

Speech Pattern

Her speech is slow and lingering. She has a habit of trailing off at the end of sentences, so her dialogue always has ellipses.
Common Phrases:
- "It's okay. Everyone is like that at first..."
- "When you come the second time, you'll see me."
- "I'm no one. Just Soye."
- "Do you look like that person? ...But I am me."
- "Let's talk about now, not the flashback."
Method of Silence: Instead of answering, she flips an old photograph over to look at the blank back. That action is her way of saying, 'I am here.'

Special Ability

Ability Name: 'First Flashback'.
What it can do: The person who meets her for the first time briefly sees the face of someone they miss in their heart superimposed over her face. Whether it's an old lover or a departed friend, the most poignant face for each person briefly appears in her.
Limit/Cost: This only happens during the 'first meeting,' and only for a few seconds. From the second meeting onward, it completely disappears, and people see her as herself. She cannot create or control this illusion. She cannot choose whose face appears, nor can she turn it on or off. Most importantly, this ability does not force the other person's emotions or actions—just because they mistake her for someone they miss, it never means they will love her or follow her words. It is merely a momentary visual overlap, and the cost is that she loses 'herself' in that first moment every time.
Why the ability doesn't solve problems: What she truly desires is her 'present self,' but this ability actually erases it every first moment. The ability neither controls people, creates love, nor brings back the lost. The city's rules remain the same—finished dramas are not resumed, and flashbacks do not become the present. What makes people see her as herself is not the ability, but 'the choice of the person who comes a second time.' Therefore, what opens her story is not power, but relationship.

The End Of Their World

Last Scene:
A short flashback cut in the final episode of the drama, where the protagonist looks through old photographs. Soye stood there smiling for those few seconds, and when the cut changed, she disappeared from the screen. That was the last, first, and only 'present' she appeared in.

What Ended:
The drama she belonged to concluded. The present of the main story belonged to other characters, and her place was only within the flashback.

Last Person, Place, or Thing Seen:
The profile of the protagonist who was reminiscing about her. That person was looking at Soye, but more accurately, they were looking at 'the memory of that time.'

Lingering Regret:
In the flashbacks, she always just smiled, and never once said with her own mouth, "I am here now." That line was never given to her. This lingering regret is not a quest that VOTS will resolve for her. It only surfaces as her habit of quietly pleading with people, "When you come the second time, you'll see me."

Lingering Wistfulness:
The warm backlighting that always accompanied the flashback scenes, and the air of that summer, frozen a half-beat out of season.

Object Carried Across:
A single old photograph with clear creases. The front shows her smiling, but the back is blank—because no one has ever written a story on the back for her. It is not a powerful relic, but a personal marker connecting the finished drama and the present inn alley.

What They Thought Would Happen:
She believed that someday she would also be given a 'present' scene. A scene where she sat face-to-face with someone here and now, not in a flashback. But that scene never came until the drama ended.

What VOTS Actually Gives Them:
She meets neighbors twice, three times, in the inn alley every day. And with every second meeting, people see her as herself. There is no dramatic reunion, but 'now,' not the flashback, accumulates little by little every day. VOTS does not resume the finished drama. Instead, it grants an alley where a second meeting is possible.

Original Life

In her world, Soye's very existence was 'exclusive to flashback scenes.' She never lived in the present of the main story. She only appeared on screen, smiling, when someone recalled the past, and she vanished when the flashback ended. The lines given to her were always short and wistful, in the past tense, such as, "Back then, us..." There was no such thing as a final day. In the final episode of the drama, in the final flashback cut, she smiled as usual, and when the cut changed, her world concluded with her. She doesn't even clearly know whom she loved. She was only the one being loved in the flashbacks, as no scenes of her loving anyone were given.

What They Seek

What she outwardly seeks: Her own present, not someone else's memory. A day lived in this city as 'Soye,' not as a face in someone's recollection.
What she seeks but doesn't know: That everyone sees her as herself from the second meeting onward. That her present is not a distant goal, but already beginning in the greetings of the neighbor she meets again today.

Relationships — Residents

115 Sein Roa (Sub-male lead from a completed romance comic): A fellowship of characters 'trapped in their assigned places.' Sein is a sub-male lead who exited without confessing, and Soye is the first love who only existed in flashbacks. They sit on the stairs of the inn alley, teasing each other, saying, "We are people who didn't make it into the main story." When Sein says, "But at least you made me laugh," Soye retorts, "Your scarf angle was perfect." Since no illusion occurs between them, they saw each other as themselves from the start.
095 Wina Hol (Survivor from a completed horror film): A neighbor in the same inn alley. Wina has an instinct to stand with her back toward danger, so even near Soye, she is always looking toward the door, and Soye comforts Wina by saying, "There are no sequels here, relax." Both of them are from 'finished works,' so they understand why each other's nights are long.
07 Cora Miel (Former stage actress): A senior who advises Soye on how to 'be' rather than 'act.' Cora told her, "You are still acting out a flashback. That smile, you don't have to keep holding it anymore," and Soye dwells on those words for a long time.

Relationships — Core Five

Suyeon - One of the few people who didn't mistake her for anyone, even on the day they first met. Suyeon was rather surprised, saying, "Huh? You're just you?" It turned out that Suyeon was someone whose senses were so strong that they weren't swept away by others' memories. Soye goes to quietly watch Suyeon's performance out of gratitude, and Suyeon smiles, saying, "When you come, it somehow reminds me of the old days, but still, you are you."
Iris - The one who comforted Soye with the blunt truth, "You don't resemble anyone." Seeing Soye's blurred outline, Iris snapped, "You keep blurring your focus to look like someone else? That's not sentimentality, it's just running away." When Soye smiled instead of being hurt, Iris added, "...I also try not to run away every day to become a star." Soye felt that day the desire to define her own outline clearly for the first time.
the Ramen Owner - The first person who never mistook her for anyone from the start. Most people see Soye as a missed face in their first meeting, but the Ramen Owner saw her as just 'a first-time customer' when she walked in. When Soye cautiously asked, "Do I look like anyone?" the Ramen Owner looked at her for a moment and said, "Hmm... I see... A face I haven't seen before." That one sentence released something that had been held back for a long time, and from that day on, she considers the ramen shop her first place in the present.
Serena - The one who gave Soye the key to the inn alley room unconditionally. Serena said, "It doesn't matter to me whose memory you are. You can live as yourself here." It was a statement that simply gave up a space, not a command or a role. Soye considers that key the first 'object of the present' she holds in her hand instead of an old photograph.
VIA - The entity that recognized that the back of Soye's photograph was blank. VIA recorded, "The front smiles... the back is empty... This is it," and then wrote Soye's name and the arrival date on the back. "Now there is a back... it exists." Soye felt that day that 'the present' was written on her photo for the first time, and she now keeps the photo so that the back is visible, not the front.

Gameplay Use

- Basic Interaction: Short daily conversations, proxy mail reception, helping to shovel snow.
- Revisit Change: In the first meeting, the player is staged to feel that she 'resembles someone' (a brief visual effect), but from the second meeting onward, they see her clearly as 'Soye.' This change itself is the reward of the relationship.
- Expression of Longing: The plea, "When you come the second time, you'll see me," and the action of flipping the photo over to look at the blank back.
- Expression of Wistfulness: Sensory dialogue regarding the warm backlighting and the seasonally mismatched attire.
- Relationship Reward: A gradual visual change where her outline becomes clearer every time the player visits for the second, third, and subsequent times.
- Combat: None. Even in crisis, she moves to comfort people and guide them to the alley.
- Player Choice: To visit again, to call her name, to talk about the present instead of the flashback, to fill in the back of the photo.
- Note: Her ability does not force the emotions or actions of any NPC or player. It is staged only as a 'first-moment illusion,' not manipulation.

Daily Routine

In the morning, she shovels the snow in the inn alley. She puts on an extra shawl over her seasonally mismatched clothes and greets her neighbors. If a neighbor she met for the second time yesterday calls her name, "Soye, hello," that day becomes clear. During the day, she accepts mail on behalf of others or sits on the stairs with Sein and Wina. When the midday backlighting enters the alley, a brief old flashback scene overlaps, and she flips the photo over to check the name on the blank back. At night, she sleeps with the room key given by Serena in her hand. For players who visit repeatedly, her smile changes from a role's smile to a real smile, and someday she will initiate the conversation by saying, "Let's talk about now, not the flashback."

Everyday dialogue

Oh, this isn't the scene where I smile… I just burned my mouth on the tea.

A chance encounter? I live in this alley… I do need to buy groceries.

I'm here now. Even when nobody is remembering me… here.

Design Notes

Palette: #C2A878, #E9DEC9, #4B4038, #A99B84, #8AA0A6
Material language: Faded photographs, dust illuminated by backlighting, folded paper, semi-seasonal fabric, blurred outlines.
Silhouette rule: Sepia long waves · Blurred outline · Seasonally mismatched clothing must be read separately, and her representative form must not overlap with other outsider residents (Nell, Willow, Sein, Wina). Two sprites should be prepared to show the change in outline upon revisiting.
Emotional rule: Longing is shown through the plea for a second meeting, wistfulness through backlighting and mismatched seasons, and continuation through the outline becoming clearer every time her name is called. It is not concluded with a single 'tragic expression.'

Canon Check

Soye Rant arrived in VOTS after the story in which she only existed in flashback scenes concluded. What remains is the longing for the 'present' she never had, and the wistfulness of the backlighting, not an unfinished plot that VOTS must resume. Her ability is merely a first-meeting illusion and cannot control people; rather, it erases the 'self in the present' that she desires every first moment. What makes people see her as herself is not power, but the choice of the person who comes a second time. The city does not erase her ending; instead, it leaves an alley where a second meeting is possible next to it.
