Core Premise

Tolvo Ganz lived out the story of his own world to the very end. He did not come to resolve an unfinished incident, but because there remained a direction his hands remembered even after the final scene, he reached Nova Nivalis. This city is not an afterlife, nor is it a court of judgment, nor is it a place to forcibly heal wounds. What continues here is not a grand destiny, but a life of re-choosing—a single roof, clearing one patch of snow, a bowl of broth, waiting. For Tolvo, that life always happens above people's heads.

Identity

Tolvo is an artisan who tends to the roofs and snow shingles in the Snowfield Alley area. When heavy snow is forecast, his day begins a day earlier than everyone else's. He gauges with his eyes how much snow will settle on the roof slope and which eaves will sag first, then shoulders his waterproof sheeting and snow guard boards and climbs a ladder. He does not inflate his work into something heroic. His core belief is that a roof is not something to boast about, but something that keeps from collapsing. If someone thanks him, he just shrugs once, and usually, before the other person finishes their thanks, he is already looking at the next roof.

Visual Profile

Hair: Short, slate gray (blue-gray) hair, always bearing a flattened mark. His right eyebrow is bisected by a scar from an old accident.
Eyes: Deep gray, with deep wrinkles around his eyes due to the habit of alternating glances between distant and near objects.

Personality

Tolvo is a man whose hands move before his words. Though he appears taciturn, he is actually very worried, and if a neighbor's eaves bother him, he will set up a ladder even if not asked. His strengths are caution and responsibility. He has never taken lightly the fact that someone sleeps under the waterproof sheeting he covers. His flaws are stubbornness and clumsy speech. When praised, he can't respond and instead fiddles with his tools; to someone who offers help, he immediately replies, "It's fine." He possesses a sense of humor that makes fun of himself for constantly tripping on the ground. He is not someone burdened only by tragedy; on an afternoon when the city spreads out beneath him from the roof, he hums a tune.

His sentence endings are short and do not trail off. Phrases like "It's done," or "That's enough" often conclude his sentences.

Special Ability

Name: Roofstep.
What it does: Tolvo never slips, no matter how steep the incline, how icy the tiles, or how wet the slate. His soles read the grain of the roof first, and his body knows where it is safe to step and where it is not.
Limit/Cost: This sense only works on the roof. The moment he steps onto the ground, he falls more often than an ordinary 50-year-old man. He trips on flat alleyways, wet stairs, and even the threshold of a ramen shop. He says, "High places are comfortable, and low places are scary."
Why the ability doesn't solve problems: Roofstep only prevents him from slipping; it cannot reverse what has collapsed. His world collapsed while he was standing on the roof. He relearns every day while climbing the ladder that being able to stand is different from being able to protect.

The End Of Their World

Last Scene:
At dawn, after the earthquake subsided, he spread his last sheet of waterproof sheeting over the collapsed roofs. There was no sound from below.

What Ended:
The entire mountain city, stacked layer upon layer on the mountainside, collapsed in a single tremor. There were no more walls left to place roofs upon.

Last Person, Place, or Thing Seen:
The morning steam seeping through the cracks in the roof, and the moment that steam stopped.

Lingering Regret:
One neighbor's eave that he postponed, saying, "We can fix it tomorrow" the night before. That tomorrow never came. This regret is not a quest that must be resolved. It quietly remains within Tolvo's habit of tending to others' roofs before heavy snow.

Intact roofs that can be placed without fear of collapse, and the people who sleep beneath them. The city does not cancel his ending. Instead, it gives him a place where he can still tend to roofs even while collapsed, relationships that are present but not dominant, and feet that do not slip.

Original Life

Tolvo was a roof master for the city whose roofs were stacked like steps on a mountainside. His father, and his father before him, did the same work, and he remembered people not by names but by the roofs they owned, noting how many years old each roof was. His last day was like this: A neighbor mentioned his eaves were creaking in the evening, and he looked at the sky and said, "It's not raining, let's do it tomorrow." The ground shook that night. He was on the roof, and that's why he lived. He covered the remaining roofs with waterproof sheeting until dawn, but the number of roofs left to cover was dwindling. He never managed to fix that postponed eave.

What They Seek

What Tolvo seeks on the surface: A sky he can look up at without worrying about collapse. He still checks his footing from the roof.
What he doesn't know he needs to find: The fact that the roofs of this city already trust his hands. People sleep soundly under the roofs he has fixed, and he is still unaware that this is the answer to the eave he postponed.

Relationships — Residents

Nadi Rooke (03, Coat Mender · Snowfield Alley): A neighbor in the same alley. When Nadi is sewing thick winter clothes, Tolvo's roof work also gets busy. They meet silently under the eaves, nodding to each other before going to work. Tolvo's torn work clothes are always mended by Nadi.
Zako Pel (60, Roof Icicle Remover): A colleague on the roof. When Tolvo covers the roof with waterproof sheeting, Zako knocks down the icicles from the eaves. Tolvo is displeased with Zako's youthful recklessness, but he believes that Zako hears the sound of the icicles crying. He admits, "That kid is better than me up there."
Bran Kol (76, Chimney Sweeper): Chimneys and roofs are connected, so they often overlap. When Bran sweeps the chimney, soot falls onto the roof, and Tolvo sweeps it up. They grumble over who goes first, but they always meet on the same roof during the first snow of winter.

Suyeon - They clash because their methods of pushing through things are similar.
On the day before the heavy snow, Tolvo was on the ramen shop's roof spreading waterproof sheeting when Suyeon stepped up, saying she would knock down the eaves' icicles with her ice sword. When the sword struck the eaves, Tolvo's foothold shook, and for the first time, he almost lost his balance on the roof. "Even on the roof, I don't slip, but your sword almost made me slip." Suyeon replied, "Then I'll catch you from below," and Tolvo didn't dislike those words.
Iris - They respect each other's work, but their expressions are taciturn.
One winter night, while Tolvo was working on a dark roof with only a flashlight, several of Iris's drones shone light from above to illuminate the work surface. When Tolvo thanked her, Iris retrieved the drones, saying, "It was just passing by; there's nothing to show off."
From that day on, Tolvo never charges for her stage roof.
the Ramen Owner - They fill each other's spaces in silence.
On nights when heavy snow is forecast, Tolvo goes to the ramen shop's roof first to tend to the snow guards without being asked. When he comes down, the Ramen Owner pours an extra ladle of broth without asking anything. They just look at Tolvo's wet shoulders with a "Hmm... I see..." and don't ask why he came. Tolvo considers that broth to be payment.
Serena - They share a quiet trust regarding height.
When Serena was first establishing the city, she said, "I want to see the highest point in this city," and Tolvo guided her to the clock tower's roof. He found her manner of seeking agreement rather than giving orders unfamiliar. Serena looked down at the city from the edge of the roof and simply said, "Everything is connected when seen from here." Since then, Tolvo calls that roof 'the place Serena saw.'
VIA - A small visitor who leaves records.
On the days Tolvo works on the ramen shop's roof, a note from VIA is often left under the eaves the next day. "The roof has been fixed... it has been fixed. The one sleeping below doesn't know... they don't know." Tolvo folds that note and tucks it into his tool belt. VIA did not bring him to the roof. She only records who slept under the waterproof sheeting he covered.

- Relationship Reward: Not a new item, but the reassurance that the player's regular spot's roof will not collapse throughout the winter.
- Combat: None. In dangerous situations, he guides people to a safe spot under the roof rather than fighting.

Daily Routine

In the morning, he checks how much the wind shook the roof the night before. This check is not a compulsion, but a small ritual that distinguishes the last collapsed dawn from this morning. During the day, he travels through Snowfield Alley, fixing creaking eaves, visiting both houses he was asked to fix and those he wasn't asked to fix in equal measure. Around noon, the city is visible most broadly from the roof, and then the evening smoke from the old city rises. At night, he hangs the old crossbar of his belt next to the threshold, leaving it unlocked so he can see it again tomorrow. For players who visit repeatedly, there comes a day when his work speed slows down slightly, and the "It's done" at the end of his sentences changes to "Thank you."

I'll inspect the eaves. Don't watch from underneath. Admission is paid in falling snow.

Can it wait until tomorrow? Have you asked that icicle?

To avoid overlapping forms with other roof-related characters like Zako Pel and Bran Kol, Tolvo's unique silhouette is based on his 'horizontally spread shoulder line.'
Emotional rule: Lingering feeling is expressed by the pause in saying "Let's do it tomorrow" and the voluntary repairs before heavy snow; poignancy is expressed by chimney smoke and evening light; continuity is expressed by the ladder climbed every day. It is not concluded with a single tragic expression.

Canon Check

Tolvo Ganz arrived in VOTS after the story of his own world ended. What remained was his un-slipping feet and his lingering regret over the postponed eaves, not an unfinished plot for the city to resolve. His earthquake is not canceled. The new scene in Nova Nivalis continues by connecting a sound roof next to a collapsed one. The Core Five do not solve his problems for him. the Ramen Owner pours broth without judgment, Serena only agrees without commanding, and VIA only records the person under the roof without bringing him there.
