Core Premise

Seva Tol came to Nova Nivalis after the stories of his own world ended. His world was one where everyone had to stand and work, and in that world where sitting was forbidden, he was the last chair craftsman. Even after sending the last chair down the river on the day chairs were legally banned, the sensation of carving wood to create a place to sit remained in his hands. VOTS is not a place that summoned him to judge or reward him. What continues here is not a grand liberation, but a life of smoothing wood, fitting legs, shaping backrests, and making just one more place for someone to sit. In this city, sitting is not a sin.

Identity

Seva Tol runs a carpentry shop in Print Shop Alley that makes only chairs. He doesn't make dining tables or shelves, only chairs—stools, high-backed chairs, rocking chairs, and low chairs for children. He considers making places where people can sit and catch their breath to be his entire purpose. Print Shop Alley has many people who stand for long periods typesetting and printing, so Seva's chairs are always needed. His carpentry is not nostalgia; it is labor that actually lets the people of the city rest their legs. He doesn't take it for granted, yet he clings to the fact that a well-made chair can alleviate the fatigue of a day.

Visual Profile

His hair is blonde, always dusted with sawdust, and tied back halfway. Sawdust clings to the strands that have escaped the tie, making them sparkle. He has a carpenter's pencil stuck in his ear, and he finds that pencil from time to time. His eyes are a gentle brown, and his palms are perpetually rough from sanding. His build is sturdy with broad shoulders. His signature attire is a knee-length apron covered in planer shavings and sawdust. His signature prop is a folding ruler, which he uses to measure the length of chair legs and sitting height. The core of his silhouette is the half-tied blonde hair, the pencil in his ear, the sandpaper-rough hands, and the half-finished chair standing beside him. The accent color is the warm brown of freshly cut wood, giving the impression of 'a person who makes places to sit with wood' even in small sprites.

Personality

Seva is leisurely and his hands are honest. He doesn't rush, and he doesn't go against the grain of the wood. His strength is his ability to watch people for a long time and gauge the height that suits them, but he is good at politely suggesting others 'Please sit down' while rarely sitting himself in the finished chairs. A habit from the world where sitting was forbidden remains, so he works standing up and eats standing up. He is not a tragic person. He enjoys talking about customers and wood, lets children play with sawdust, and feels pleased when someone sits in a well-made chair and sighs. However, in one corner of his shop, there is always a finished chair that he never sits in, and he only offers that chair to customers.

Speech Pattern

Slow, low, and he often says 'Please sit down.' Frequent phrases: 'Please sit down, even for a moment.', 'The wood isn't ready yet, don't rush.', 'It's not laziness, it's resting.', 'A sigh only comes out when you sit down and rest.' When his emotions move, the speed of his planing slows down. When silent, he opens and closes his folding ruler.

Special Ability

The ability is called 'The Chair That Receives the First Sigh.' Chairs made by Seva gently receive the first sigh of the person who sits in them once a day. When a tired person first sits in his chair and exhales, that sigh becomes a little lighter. The limit is clear. The effect works only once a day, on the first sigh. From the second sigh onward, it is just an ordinary chair. Furthermore, the chair can allow someone to sit, but it cannot resolve the fear of sitting. The reason this ability doesn't solve problems is because Seva himself cannot sit in his own chairs. While he receives the first sighs of others, he always swallows his own first sigh while standing. The city's rules do not substitute permission to sit with an object. The day Seva sits in his own chair comes only by his choice, not by his ability.

The End Of Their World

Last Scene:
The moment he sent the last chair down the river on the day chairs were legally banned.

What Ended:
Sitting ended. In his world, chairs were banned as a symbol of idleness, and the workshop and all the places of rest disappeared with them.

Last Person, Place, or Thing Seen:
The backrest of the last chair drifting down the river, and a bird that flew away after briefly sitting on it.

Lingering Regret:
He never actually sat in that last chair. Because he had to float it down the river as soon as he made it.

Lingering Wistfulness:
The sound of the grain when planing the well-dried wood, and the first sigh exhaled by the person who first sat in the finished chair.

Object Carried Across:
A block of wood left over from making the last chair. It remains on the workbench, uncarved, postponed to be made into the chair he will someday sit in.

What They Thought Would Happen:
He believed that when chairs were banned, people would get used to living standing up, and that his hands would become useless.

What VOTS Actually Gives Them:
The fact that this city does not consider sitting a sin. VOTS does not return his lost workshop, but it gives him an alley where people who work standing up, and who need a place to sit and catch their breath, are present.

Original Life

Seva was a chair craftsman in a world where everyone worked standing up. In that world, sitting was considered a sign of laziness, and chairs were increasingly glared at. Still, Seva made chairs. People whose legs were damaged from standing for long periods secretly visited his workshop, and he made them places to sit, even if only for a moment. When this was pointed out as something subversive, the making of chairs itself was finally banned. On the last day, he finished his last chair before it was confiscated. Instead of sitting in it, he floated it down the river. Hoping someone downstream would rescue and sit in it. After watching the chair drift away down the river until the end, he stood in the Print Shop Alley of this city—still, standing.

What They Seek

What Seva believes he is seeking is 'proof that saying 'sit down' is not laziness.' He wants to prove with an object, a good chair, that resting is not a sin. What he needs to find without knowing is that this city has already agreed with him. No one bans his chairs, and people sit in his chairs and sigh in gratitude. The city has already answered 'It is okay to sit,' but Seva alone cannot accept that answer with his own body. What he truly needs to find is not a chair for others, but a chair for himself.

Relationships — Residents

Sona Vent (086, Carpentry): A senior and junior in carpentry. When Sona makes signs and structures, Seva makes the chairs. They sometimes yield or argue over the raw material, wood, but Seva distinguishes his work by telling Sona, 'You make things that stand, and I make things that sit.' Sona teases him, saying that phrase is cool, but she actually respects it.
Bel Hamo (088, Theater Usher): Seva takes on the repair of old seats at Closed Theater Street. When Bel asks, 'Do you know how many audience members sat in these seats?', Seva doesn't place a single nail carelessly, imagining that weight. The theater seats are special to him, being 'the chairs that received the most sighs.'
Dorian Pike (011, Board Game Attendant): He has a connection over the plaza benches. Since Seva adjusted the backrest angle for people who sit for a long time at Dorian's board game spot, Dorian calls Seva 'the benefactor of the backside.' Seva pretends to dislike the nickname but secretly likes it.

Relationships — Core Five

Suyeon - Suyeon visited Seva's workshop exhausted from performance practice, and sat in a chair offered by Seva, letting out a long sigh without realizing it. 'Uh... this is comfortable.' Seva only said, 'This chair receives the first sigh.' Since then, Suyeon always sits in that chair before attempting Cola Bibimyeon—it has become a place to steel her resolve. Seva just watches from the side.
Iris - When Iris ordered a stage stool, she asked him to 'make it flashy,' but Seva presented a sturdy, low stool. 'Flashy things creak quickly.' Iris grumbled, but after sitting on the stool, she admitted it. When Seva asked nothing about a drone that was turned off, Iris kept that stool in a corner of the stage.
the Ramen Owner - There was an incident when Seva tried to donate a new stool to the ramen shop, and the Ramen Owner insisted for the first time, 'I will pay for it.' The Ramen Owner, who was always generous with credit and sharing, insisted on paying for that one chair. Seva accepted the payment without asking the reason. The Ramen Owner said, 'Hmm... I see...' not 'Thank you,' and Seva remembers those rare words.
Serena - Seva is one of the few people who knows why Serena's office only has one chair. Serena doesn't order another chair because when a guest comes, she always offers that single chair to the guest. When Seva asks, 'What about you? Will you sit?', Serena replies, 'I can stand. Sitting is up to the guest to choose.' Seva felt that statement was contrary to his habit yet similar.
VIA - VIA looked intently at a block of wood on Seva's workbench, one that hadn't been carved yet. 'This... is not yet a chair. There is no one to sit in it.' Seva said, 'It's mine. Someday I will sit in it.' VIA did not record it, just saying, 'It is a waiting chair... that is what it is.' Since then, whenever VIA comes to the workshop, they look at that block of wood once and leave.

Gameplay Use

- Basic Interaction: Ordering/repairing chairs, suggesting someone sit, short conversations about wood.
- Revisit Changes: On the first visit, he only repeats 'Please sit down.' From the second visit, he subtly hints at why he stands, and if they become close, he shares a piece of the story about the last chair floated down the river.
- Expression of Lingering Attachment: The habit of not sitting in finished chairs, leaving the uncarved block of wood aside.
- Expression of Poignancy: The sound of planing the wood grain, dialogue about the first sigh.
- Relationship Reward: Not new items, but changes connecting carpentry scenes with Sona, Bel, and Dorian to Print Shop Alley and the plaza.
- Combat: None. Even in danger, he first makes a place for people to sit and rest.

Daily Routine

In the morning, he inspects the wood dried overnight, looking at the grain to decide which chair to make that day. During the day, he stands and planes and fits the legs. He shares wood with Sona and sometimes goes to repair Bel's theater seats. When a customer comes, he encourages them to sit in a finished chair while he attends to them standing. In the afternoon, he sands while letting the children play with sawdust. In the evening, he recalls the first sigh exhaled by someone sitting in the chair made that day, and finally touches the uncarved block of wood on his workbench before ending the day standing up. If they visit repeatedly, there will be days when Seva sits briefly in a finished chair when there are no customers—a sign that he is ready to make his own chair.

Everyday dialogue

Sit. I'll accept compliments after you've put your weight on it.

Tell me if it creaks. I can distinguish your knees from my chair.

I never sat in the last chair. May I try this one for a moment first?

Design Notes

Palette: #A6803F, #6B4E2A, #D8C4A0, #3B3128, #7A8A6E
Material language: Freshly cut wood, sawdust, sandpaper, glue smell, worn folding ruler.
Silhouette rule: The half-tied blonde hair, the pencil in the ear, the rough hands, and the half-finished chair standing beside him must be read separately and not overlap with other characters.
Emotional rule: Lingering attachment is shown by the habit of not sitting in his own chairs, poignancy by the sound of planing the grain and the first sigh, and continuation by the chairs he carves and refines every day.

Canon Check

Seva Tol's world is over. The last chair floated down the river does not return to VOTS, nor does his ability resolve the fear of sitting. What remains is the lingering attachment of what he couldn't sit in and the uncarved block of wood, and Nova Nivalis stitches together a new alley where sitting is not a sin. The city does not promise salvation, nor does it command him to sit; it keeps his chairs nearby without owning them.
