Sien Var came to Nova Nivalis after the stories of her own world ended. Her world was one where all the ice rinks had melted, and she was the last figure skater of that world. Even after finishing her performance alone in the empty rink on the day of the canceled final competition, the sensation of the ice remained on her feet. VOTS is not a place to judge or compensate her. What continues here is not a grand championship, but a life of gliding barefoot over the lake in the outskirts, performing short routines when people gather in the square, and melting her cold feet with the warmth of a thermos. There is no one left to score her.
Identity
Sien Var is a person who performs on the ice, moving between the lake and the square in the outskirts. Her image of gliding barefoot on the ice, without skates, is unique in the city. There is no set stage or competition, but when she goes out onto the lake, people gather around her one by one. She glides not for scores, but because her body remembers the ice. Her performance is part of the daily life that adds a brief beauty to the city's winter. She sometimes serves as an opening guest for winter festivals or performances.
Visual Profile
Her hair is an ice blonde pixie undercut. Over the undercut, which is closely shaved on the sides and back, only the crown is left slightly longer, flowing in a pale, silvery blonde like ice—this combination of 'undercut + ice blonde' is her decisive differentiator. The white pixie from the same city (030 Hera Monts) is a soft, un-undercut white pixie, and the silver-blue pixie (067) is silver-blue without an undercut, whereas Sien has a sharp undercut with completely shaved sides, revealing her scalp line, and ice blonde, making her silhouette read differently. Her eyes are a pale turquoise. On her ankles, there are scars resembling old ribbon marks, left by figure skate laces. Her skin is pale and firm, and her calf muscles are taut. Her signature outfit is a short cape covering her shoulders and leg warmers wrapping below her knees, but her feet are always bare. Her signature prop is a single, old ribbon tied and untied around her ankle. The core of her silhouette is the sharp ice blonde undercut, the short cape, the leg warmers, and the bare feet. The accent color is the pale turquoise ice color of the outskirts lake, giving the impression of an 'ice person' even in small sprites.
Personality
Sien is composed and speaks with her body. Her movements precede her words, and she expresses both joy and sorrow on the ice. Her strength is her tenacity to finish her performance regardless of the score, and her flaw is that this tenacity causes her to endure even when her feet freeze. Being accustomed to enduring the cold, she feels awkward when others worry about her feet. She is not a tragic person. If children imitate her at the edge of the lake, she smiles and teaches them simple movements, and on days when she glides well, she hums a tune. However, when she finishes performing in the middle of the empty lake and stops, if silence instead of applause returns, she stands still in that spot for a moment—just like in the empty rink of the canceled competition.
Speech Pattern
Short and dry, accompanied by gestures. Frequent phrases: "You don't have to score it.", "It's always cold, it's familiar.", "I finish it to the end, I don't stop halfway.", "My feet? It's fine, the ice is colder." When emotions rise, instead of speaking, she goes out onto the ice and spins once. When silent, she ties and unties the ribbon on her ankle.
Special Ability
The ability is called 'Barefoot Glide.' Sien glides barefoot on the ice without skates. Her bare feet glide and spin on the ice as if they have skate blades. The limit is clear and painful. This ability only works when she is barefoot, and it does not mean her feet aren't cold. She still feels the cold of the ice completely—just like everyone else, or even colder because she is barefoot. The ability only allows her to glide; it does not protect her from pain and cold. The reason this ability doesn't solve her problems is that what she wants is not 'to glide well,' but 'a performance recognized without scores.' Barefoot Glide keeps her on the ice, but it doesn't give her the certainty that her performance is not in vain. The city's rules do not melt her cold feet, nor do they return the melted rink.
The End Of Their World
Last Scene:
The moment she finished her performance alone in the empty rink on the day of the canceled final competition, in a world where all the ice rinks had melted.
What Ended:
The ice ended. All the ice rinks in her world melted, and the competitions, the audience, and the scoring disappeared with them.
Last Person, Place, or Thing Seen:
The empty stands and the last ice that had already begun to melt beneath her feet when she stopped after finishing her performance.
Lingering Regret:
No one scored that last performance. The competition itself was canceled without anyone ever telling her whether she did well or not.
Lingering Wistfulness:
The moment she stopped after the final spin of her performance, with the sound of the blade scraping the ice and her breath scattering into white mist.
Object Carried Across:
The laces of the figure boots she intended to wear in the final competition. She left the boots behind but brought only the laces tied around her ankles, which remain on the scars of her ankles.
What They Thought Would Happen:
She believed that her performance would end when the ice melted. She thought she couldn't be tired without ice.
What VOTS Actually Gives Them:
This city has no season that never freezes, and by the lake, there are audiences that do not score. VOTS does not return the melted ice rinks, but it gives her ice to glide on barefoot, and people who simply watch instead of scoring.
Original Life
Sien was a figure skater in a world where the ice rinks were melting. She grew up on the rink from a young age, and scoring and rankings were her world. She performed for scores, and she measured her worth by scores. But as the temperature rose, the rinks began to melt one by one. Competitions decreased, the ice to practice disappeared, and the audience scattered. On the day the final competition was scheduled, even the remaining rink began to melt, and the competition was canceled. While other skaters went home, Sien stood alone on the half-melted rink. And she completed that performance, from beginning to end, even though no one would score it. When she stopped after the final spin, the ice beneath her feet softened, and the stands were empty. She stood on the lake of this city, having taken off her boots and only tied the laces around her ankles.
What They Seek
What Sien believes she is seeking is 'a performance without scores.' She wants to confirm whether her performance has meaning even without rankings or scoring. What she doesn't know she is seeking is that the audience gathered by the lake never scored her in the first place. They didn't come to judge whether she was good or bad; they simply came to watch her glide. Even if silence returns instead of applause, that silence is appreciation, not scoring. However, because she has long measured herself by scores, Sien mistakes the silence not as 'no evaluation' but as 'no reaction.' What she truly needs to find is the belief that the eyes watching are enough, not a score sheet.
Relationships — Residents
Ner Ake (111, Lake Warden) — The pair of the lake warden and the skater. When Ner measures the ice thickness and checks safety, Sien performs on it. Ner sets boundaries, saying, "The far end is thin today, don't go there," and Sien glides only within those boundaries. Ner always worries about Sien's bare feet but doesn't score her like in a competition.
Fargo Eun (116, Ice Condition Consultant) — Ice condition consultant. Fargo checks whether the ice is good for performing today and if the surface is rough. Sien trusts Fargo's words, and if he says, "The ice sings today," she performs longer than usual. They share a good rapport discussing the 'condition of the ice.'
Nima Afterglow (020, Twilight Collector) — The night audience of the outskirts. Nima collects the twilight of the day, and sometimes becomes the only audience member when Sien performs on the night lake. Nima watches under the twilight without clapping or scoring, and Sien finds that quiet gaze comforting.
Relationships — Core Five
Suyeon - Sien serves as the opening guest for the Suyeon and Iris performance. When Suyeon asks, "Aren't your feet cold? Should I make you a rink with my ice sword?" Sien replies, "They are cold. But that's right.". Suyeon didn't understand that at first, but later understood why Sien endured the cold to glide barefoot. Since then, Suyeon cheers especially loudly for Sien's opening performances.
Iris - Iris provides drone lighting for Sien's performance. When Sien says, "We don't need stage direction; it feels like scoring," Iris replies, "It's not scoring, it's just to make it pretty." Sien was skeptical, but seeing nine lights circling with her spin, she opened her heart. Iris did not include one of the lights in the lighting, and Sien did not ask why.
the Ramen Owner - Sien is the only case where the Ramen Owner personally delivered a thermos to the lake. When Sien finished performing and sat on the ice barefoot, the Ramen Owner silently offered a thermos. With a "Hmm... I see..." he only guessed that her feet would be cold, but didn't ask why she was barefoot. Sien warmed her feet with the heat of the broth, and since then, she considers the ramen shop one of her allies.
Serena - When Serena offered Sien a spot in the square performance, Sien asked, "May I perform here?" Sien countered, "Are you granting permission?" and Serena replied, "It's not permission, it's consent. You decide whether to stand or not." Sien found this manner, which didn't score or command, unfamiliar yet pleasant, and for the first time in the square, she performed without being conscious of scores.
VIA - VIA records the marks left by Sien's bare feet on the ice. "She spun eight times... the marks are like flowers." When Sien shows the boot laces on her ankle, VIA records it preciously, saying, "There are no boots... only the laces remain.". VIA does not try to resolve the lingering attachment of those laces, simply stating, "The laces... are also part of the performance." Sien looked at the ice for a long time at those words.
Gameplay Use
- Basic Interaction: Watching lake performances, learning simple ice movements, short conversations.
- Revisit Changes: On the first visit, she only repeats, "You don't have to score it." From the second visit, she subtly shows the tendency to mistake silence for no reaction, and if they become close, she brings up a piece of the story of the canceled final competition.
- Expression of Lingering Attachment: Stopping in place when silence returns after a performance, the habit of tying and untying the ribbon on her ankle.
- Expression of Poignancy: Descriptive dialogue about the sound of scraping ice or the white mist of her breath after the final spin.
- Relationship Reward: Changes that link the lake scenes with Ner, Fargo, and Nima, rather than new items.
- Combat: None. Even in danger, she guides people to safe paths, avoiding thin ice.
Daily Routine
In the morning, she checks the lake ice condition with Ner and listens to Fargo about the surface condition. During the day, she practices barefoot in a safe area and teaches simple movements if children imitate her. When people gather in the square, she performs a short routine, and if there is a festival or performance, she serves as an opening guest. In the afternoon, she warms her cold feet while touching the ribbon on her ankle. In the evening, she performs alone in the night lake in front of Nima, and after finishing the final spin, she pauses for a moment in the silence. If you visit repeatedly, the time she pauses gradually shortens, and she begins to accept the silence as appreciation rather than scoring.
Everyday dialogue
Bare feet surprise you? I'm rather envious of your thick socks.
The fall wasn't choreography. Applause will make this awkward.
Instead of a score, tell me what you saw. Better than that final performance nobody said anything about.
Design Notes
Palette: #A8E0E8, #6FA8B4, #E8F2F4, #3A4A52, #C4879E
Material language: Outskirts lake surface, short cape fabric, knit leg warmers, old boot laces, white mist of breath.
Silhouette rule: The ice blonde undercut, short cape, leg warmers, and bare feet must be read as separate elements, and especially the hair must be distinguished from the 030 white pixie and 067 silver-blue pixie by the sharp undercut with completely shaved sides + ice-colored blonde.
Emotional rule: Lingering attachment is shown by stopping in the silence after a performance, poignancy by the sound of scraping ice and dispersing breath, and continuation by the barefoot performance she does daily without scores.
Canon Check
Sien Var's world is already over. The melted ice rinks and the canceled competitions do not return in VOTS, nor does her ability eliminate the yearning for cold feet and scores. What remains is the lingering attachment of the last performance that was never scored, and a single boot lace, and Nova Nivalis connects that to a lake that never freezes and an audience that never scores. The city promises no salvation, scores no points, and does not own her performance; it watches it from the side.
