Core Premise

Vasco Dol arrived at Nova Nivalis after living out the story of his own world until the very last scene. He didn't come to solve an unfinished incident, but rather because of the habit of guarding the nights that remained on his body even after the conservatory burned down, and the habit of listening to sounds in the darkness. VOTS is not a hall of judgment, nor is it an afterlife where rewards are distributed. What continues here is not a grand destiny, but small daily life, such as a round of greenhouse patrol all night, the glow of lanterns, and the low murmuring of the plants. With the hands that managed to protect the seed vault on that last night, he guards the greenhouses of this city every night.

Identity

Vasco Dol is a guard who watches over the glass greenhouses of Glass-Lantern Greenhouse Lane all night. Carrying a lantern, he patrols the greenhouse, checking if the glass is unbroken, if the temperature has dropped, or if there are any strange presences. While the people who tend the greenhouse sleep during the day, he stays awake alone, listening to the sounds of the greenhouse. His function is not decoration, but a form of labor that allows the city's greenhouses to grow safely even at night. He calls his job the 'Night of Guarding,' but he is slowly realizing it is closer to the 'Night of Listening.'

Visual Profile

He has short, curly hair turning greenish-brown, and his drooping eyes appear gentle and sleepy. He wears round glasses often fogged by the greenhouse mist, which has led to a habit of wiping his glasses. In his hand, he holds an old guard lantern, whose light casts large plant shadows on the glass walls of the greenhouse. Around his waist, he has a set of keys and an old whistle. The core of his silhouette is the fogged round glasses, the guard lantern in his hand, the drooping eyes, and the plant shadows cast on the glass walls. The strong accent color is the greenish-brown of the night greenhouse, #5F7A61, which signals to even small sprites that he is a 'person who guards the night.' His attire is the worn uniform of a conservatory guard from the burned-down conservatory, which remains his daily wear, with faint scorch marks on the cuffs.

Personality

Outwardly, he is easygoing and quiet. Years of night shifts have given him a low voice, and even urgent matters do not make him rush. His strength is an ear that misses no small change in the night. His less admirable side is that whenever he hears something strange, he cannot decide for himself and always leaves the judgment to Prim, who works the day shift—even after five years of keeping watch at night, he still cannot fully trust his own ears. His fear of fire also lingers: even a single candle burning in the greenhouse leaves him uneasy. But tragedy is not all he carries. On nights when the plants' murmuring is peaceful, he switches off his lantern and sits in the dark to enjoy it. A bowl of ramen at dawn washes away the day's fatigue, and when he discovers a seed beginning to sprout, he cannot leave its pot until morning.

Speech Pattern

His endings are low and slow, with a whispering tone characteristic of night people. Frequent phrases: "It's quiet tonight." "They're murmuring, though I don't know what they're saying." "If something's strange, I should ask Prim." "As long as it's not a complaint, it's fine, a complaint." As a habit, he stops speaking to wipe his glasses while listening toward the greenhouse. His way of silence is lowering his lantern and listening in the darkness—listening to the night instead of answering. If someone says they can't sleep, instead of comforting them, he says, "Come listen to the greenhouse sounds; their murmuring is a lullaby." That is the kindest sentence he knows.

Special Ability

Ability Name: The Night Murmur.
Vasco can hear the low murmuring of the greenhouse plants at night. It is not the sound of leaves brushing or the wind, but a sound as if the plants are conversing with each other. However, he cannot understand the content—only the tone. Whether the tone is comfortable, anxious, or somehow pained. The limit is clear. Even if the tone is strange, he doesn't know what the problem is. So, if something is strange, he only reports it to Prim, the day shift worker, and cannot solve it himself. The cost is that he pours all his attention into those sounds all night, neglecting his own physical fatigue. Above all, this ability solves nothing. Knowing the tone of the murmur does not heal the plants, nor does it automatically make the greenhouse safe. The tending must be done by Prim during the day, and the fixing must be done by human hands. This ability only gives him a signal that 'something is strange,' but it doesn't tell him what or how to do.

The End Of Their World

Last Scene:
On the last night the conservatory burned, Vasco couldn't protect the entire greenhouse in the flames, but he escaped clutching only the seed vault containing the seeds for the next generation.

What Ended:
As the fire swallowed the conservatory, the greenhouse he guarded, the plants that murmured every night, and his guard post all ended. The night when the greenhouse to be guarded disappeared arrived.

Last Person, Place, or Thing Seen:
The conservatory collapsing as glass shattered in the flames, and the iron surface of the seed vault heating up in his embrace.

Lingering Regret:
That night, he felt the tone of the murmuring was strange from early evening, but as usual, he postponed it, saying, "I should ask Prim during the day." If he had trusted his own ears just a little more, he might have noticed the fire sooner. This regret is not a quest that VOTS must resolve. It remains in the way he listens to the night sounds, only surfacing when he wants it to, and without changing others' choices.

Lingering Wistfulness:
The low murmuring of the most peaceful nights before the fire, and the warmth of the mist on the glass. These remain as sound and warmth, briefly reviving when he lowers his lantern in the night greenhouse, before blending with the night of the snow city.

Object Carried Across:
A single key from the seed vault he carried out that day. It is not an artifact or a magic tool, but a personal mark connecting the burned conservatory to the present he guards.

What They Thought Would Happen:
He thought that if the conservatory burned, there would be nothing left to guard, and his night shift would end. But his body still woke up at night to listen to the sounds.

What VOTS Actually Gives Them:
The greenhouse to guard every night, and the ears to hear the murmuring it emits. VOTS does not restore the burned conservatory. Instead, it slowly shows him through the repetition of daily life that there is a 'Night of Listening' as well as a 'Night of Guarding,' and that there is a person during the day with whom he can share strange tones.

Original Life

He was the last night guard of a world where the conservatory burned down. His conservatory housed all sorts of rare plants, and a vault containing the seeds for those plants to pass on generations. Every night, he walked the greenhouse with his lantern, keeping watch while using the murmuring of the plants as a lullaby. He kept watch like that for several years. On the last night, the tone of the murmuring was strangely anxious from early evening, but he postponed asking during the day as usual. The fire spread before he could realize the meaning of the tone. He couldn't protect the entire greenhouse, and he escaped with only the seed vault clutched in the collapsing flames. Hearing the sound of shattering glass behind him, he regretted not trusting his own ears for the first time. And the story after that day did not remain in his world.

What They Seek

What he perceives as seeking: The Night of Listening, not the Night of Guarding. Instead of anxiously monitoring, he desires a night where he can peacefully listen to the sounds of the greenhouse.
What he actually needs to find but doesn't know: That he has been listening like this for five years. He still thinks he is only guarding, but the time he spends every night lowering his lantern and listening to the murmuring in this city's greenhouse is already the 'Night of Listening.'

Relationships — Residents

- Prim Howl(033 Prim_Howl): He is a counterpart to Prim, the greenhouse gardener, who shares the 'Night and Day of the Greenhouse.' When Vasco reports that the tone of the murmuring is strange at night, Prim investigates and fixes the problem during the day. Vasco once discovered a pattern on Prim's crest at night and watched it until morning, and Prim often reassures him, "Your ears were right," knowing that Vasco doesn't trust his own hearing. They cannot fully care for the greenhouse without each other.
- Paya Jin(084 Paya_Jin): He shares stories about the seed vault with Paya, the greenhouse apprentice. When Vasco tells her about protecting the seed vault in the burned-down conservatory, Paya's eyes light up, and she vows to protect the seeds in this greenhouse too. Vasco advises Paya, "It's harder to get through safely than to guard something."
- Nima Afterglow(20 Nima_Afterglow): He meets Nima, the light collector from beyond the Last Snow Platform, on the outskirts of the night. While Vasco is patrolling the greenhouse, Nima goes to collect the residual light, and they exchange brief greetings during the quietest time of the night. When Nima asks, "How is the greenhouse tonight?" Vasco replies, "It's murmuring, peacefully."

Relationships — Core Five

Suyeon - He makes allowances for her noisy nighttime rehearsals. When Suyeon practices near the greenhouse path at night and the noise gets loud, Vasco approaches with his lantern. But instead of scolding, he uses the plants as an excuse, saying, "It's the plants' sleeping time, could you turn it down a little?" Suyeon finds that amusing and lowers the volume in front of the greenhouse. Once, Suyeon tried to share Cola Bibim-myeon with Vasco during his dawn patrol, but Vasco politely declined, saying, "My stomach gets unsettled at night."
Iris - Two people who work at night. When Iris passes the greenhouse path while working overnight, she meets Vasco's lantern light. When Iris asks, "What are you guarding all night?" Vasco replies, "It's less about guarding and more about listening." Iris remembers those words for a long time. Vasco saw the place of the ever-dark tenth drone as Iris's nine lit drones reflected in the greenhouse glass, but as a night person, he asked nothing.
the Ramen Owner - The regular at the dawn ramen shop. After finishing his overtime, Vasco stops by the ramen shop at dawn to end his day with a bowl of ramen. 119 Boldo Kane is always sitting silently next to him, and they eat the broth side-by-side without greeting each other. The Ramen Owner only pours more broth into both their bowls, saying, "Hmm... I see..."
Vasco is comfortable with the hot steam rising from the ramen, which is familiar to the greenhouse mist, and he never orders peaches.
Serena - The one who entrusted the night. When Serena entrusted the night guard duty of the greenhouse to Vasco, she asked for his consent, not gave an order. "It's not that I'm asking you to guard it. But if you listen to the night, I consent to that night." Vasco heard for the first time that his night shift was called 'listening' rather than 'guarding.' Serena had never once dictated how he should keep watch.
VIA - A record of the murmuring. VIA asked Vasco to help record the plants' murmurs at night. When Vasco describes their tone, VIA writes it on a note: "Tonight they murmured peacefully... Peaceful, indeed." For the first time, Vasco saw the sounds he had only listened to and let pass leave a trace somewhere, and he began to trust his ears a little more. VIA records only the tone, never what the murmurs say—only as much as Vasco knows.

Gameplay Use

- Basic Interaction: Accompanying night greenhouse patrol, telling the tone of the night's murmur, guiding with lantern light.
- Revisit Changes: Initially, they only talk about patrols; the second time, he brings up a piece of the burned conservatory story; subsequently, he shares the night with the player by asking, "Want to listen to the greenhouse sounds?"
- Expression of Lingering Feelings: The habit of deferring judgment to "Prim" even when hearing a strange tone, and the reaction of tension even to a single candle.
- Expression of Nostalgia: Dialogue where he briefly closes his eyes while listening to the night greenhouse murmuring, as if hearing the old conservatory.
- Combat: None. Even in dangerous moments, he guides people into the safe greenhouse or lights the path through the darkness with his lantern.
- Player Choices: Accompanying the night patrol, listening to the murmur together, reporting news to Prim, coming back again.

Daily Routine

He starts his night shift around sunset, lighting his lantern and grabbing his keys to begin the night. In the early evening, he walks around the greenhouse once to check the glass and temperature. As the night deepens, he lowers his lantern and sits in the darkness to listen to the plants' murmuring. If the tone is comfortable, he is comfortable; if it's unfamiliar, he tries not to forget it. Around midnight, when the greenhouse mist thickens on the glass, the peaceful night of the old conservatory before the fire briefly overlaps and passes. In the early morning, he leaves a note for Prim about any strange tones, stops by the ramen shop, and ends his day with the broth. When day comes, he puts the seed vault key back in its place and goes to sleep. He doesn't hide the key; he leaves it so he can hold it again the next night. If the player visits repeatedly, he reads the murmuring with a little more confidence than before, and adds more details about the burned conservatory.

Everyday dialogue

Night patrol. I can hear a quiet welcome perfectly well.

Talkative leaves tonight. They'll demand overtime before I do.

I check strange sounds tonight. Before 'I'll ask in daylight' gets ahead of my ears.

Design Notes

Palette: #5F7A61, #C8D6C4, #2E3A30, #B5975A, #DCE4D8
Material language: Fogged glass, brass guard lantern, scorched uniform cuffs, old iron keys, greenhouse doorframe wet with snow.
Silhouette rule: Fogged round glasses - guard lantern - drooping eyes - plant shadows on the glass wall are read separately and do not overlap with the representative forms of other characters.
Emotional rule: Lingering feelings are shown through the habit of deferring judgment and tension regarding fire; nostalgia is shown through the murmuring of the old conservatory; continuity is shown through the sounds he listens to every night. It is not concluded with a single 'tragic expression.'

Canon Check

Vasco Dol arrived at VOTS after the story of his own world ended. What remains is the lingering regret of not trusting his own ears and the nostalgia of the old conservatory's murmuring, not an unfinished plot that the city must resolve. His ability only conveys the tone of the murmur and doesn't tell him what the problem is, and his night does not become safe by itself. The new nights in Nova Nivalis quietly continue alongside the burned conservatory, without erasing it.
